Student Travel Deals

Student travel deals abound. College students have many opportunities to see the world and experience different cultures while studying. There is also spring break and the chance to meet up with other college students for hopefully safe fun.

Travel Deals

The one place that all freshmen want to travel is back home. Attending school away from your home can make it financially stressful to return home. One trick is to buy your tickets early. Many airlines, trains and buses offer student discounts on travel especially over the holidays. The best deals are made early. Waiting until the last minute could see you spending Christmas away from your family.

These deals don’t stop there. Students can also get deals on popular travel destinations for spring break. Businesses are weary of kids spending time in their establishments without responsible party’s present, so check into requirements for these travel and accommodation deals. Parents may have to sign something that holds them responsible for any damage or uncovered costs.

Study Abroad

This is a great opportunity to travel for less. With college-sponsored programs, students can travel to other countries as a part of their major. Imagine seeing the great museums of France or the architecture or Italy? The cost of traveling abroad is reduced with these programs. There is a guide who will look after those in the group.

There are different types of programs. Study abroad can be conducted in a foreign country but you will have classes with other American students. During the social times, you can interact with other students from that country and soak up the culture.

Also, you can go for the full experience and take classes with the foreign students in their language. If you feel comfortable with the language, this is one way to learn subtle lingo that is not taught in a language course.

Other Opportunities

You can become a part of a travel abroad program that is not a part of your school. Some of these groups offer college students the chance to volunteer in foreign countries. Students go with a guide and stay for two or more weeks at a time, living with the native people and learning their culture.

International study abroad programs send students to countries all around the world for study experiences. It is important to check out any program that you choose very carefully. Learn about not only the opportunities, but also the cost, what is included, what supplies are needed, if college credit will be earned, housing, passport issues and health concerns. For example, when traveling abroad, you may need a more extensive health insurance plan.

Spring Break

We touched on this earlier. Spring break is an exciting time in a student’s life. They get to party and spend time with friends. Choosing a spring break destination is important. Popular destinations hike up their rates when they know young college students are coming. That can mean more cost for parents, especially for underage students.

If you are over 21, your travel deals may get a bit better. If you want to skip the usual haunts, spending the break in places like Jamaica or the Bahamas can get you a sweet travel package for a week stay at a resort. You’ll have access to local culture, night life and lots of water fun.

What are you looking for in a student travel deal? Whether it is academic study in another country or academic hiatus in a sunny spring break location, you can find travel discounts if you do your homework.
